Currently, the SM does not know about the project or the folder a document belongs too.
The folder is considered an internal organizational structure for the DM's use. Trying to maintain changes in the SM could cause large amounts of traffic to try to maintain that information on the SM. For example, if a cabinet name changes, that could cause hundreds of thousands or even millions of documents to need to be updated so that their folder path is still correct. We have evaluated searching on folder within the SM before and it was deemed too resource intensive.
Projects are a different matter though. We will definitely look at adding project support to the SM. A quick review suggests that this could be very beneficial and relatively low impact to maintain.
